If you want to be bride beautiful, you can't ignore your food habits
What colour wedding lehenga? Which make up artist? What about accessories? My hair! I am sure, as a bride-to-be, all these thoughts and dozens more are racing through your mind. Unfortunately, all this worrying not only plays mental havoc but also, the long hours of shopping and fittings and trousseau hunting leads to you skipping meals or making do with any junk that's available when you are hungry. All this takes a toll on your skin, hair and overall health.
As a bride-to-be, to be able to look your best is first to be able to feel your best. And for that, above all comes correct eating. I am sure you have all heard the saying that you are as beautiful on the outside as you are from within. A well-nourished body reflects and spells beauty. So from today, give as much importance to your body as you give to your bridal dress.
Correct eating and a well balanced diet should be started at least a few weeks before the wedding to nourish every cell from within so that it reflects in every inch of your face and skin.
GLOWING COMPLEXION
Generous amounts of vitamins and minerals are essential for a glowing skin. This comes from a glass of veggie juice every day. Some juice combos are recommended in the box on the next page. It's important to remember that the juices should contain a minimum of three different coloured vegetables, for example, Tomato + Carrot + Spinach, thus giving you maximum benefit. Mixing them gives you a variety of nourishment that reflects on your skin. Ideally, you will notice a marked improvement in skin quality within two-three weeks. Remember that the time of the day is not important; it can be had anytime. But what's important to note is that it should be consumed as soon as it is prepared, so that there is no loss of vitamins and you get the full benefit.
SHINY HAIR
Lustrous hair and that sparkle in your eyes can be accomplished with the correct amount of proteins in your diet. If you are a vegetarian, then dals and pulses, soyabean and tofu, sprouts, low fat cottage cheese and milk are the sources we need to concentrate on. At least two servings of the above mentioned items should be made a must. For the non-vegetarians, egg whites, fish and chicken are good sources of proteins. In most cases, if you carry a packed lunch, either if you are working or if you are out shopping, this category of food is usually ignored. Since carrying dals or yogurt becomes a messy affair, it is usually excluded from a packed meal. This must be corrected, as proteins are extremely an important source of nourishment. Lack of proteins in our daily meals leads to symptoms such as fatigue, anger, irritability, and hair fall, to name a few. Make sure you include one or other form of protein as an integral part of your daily menu.
HIGH ENERGY
Long gaps between meals due to busy shopping schedules can lead to acidity, fatigue, lethargy and headaches. Ensure that along with your three main meals you eat something every two-three hours. For example, you could eat a fruit or a biscuit, a khakra, an idli, some roasted chana or a dry bhel or veg sandwich. All these choices are freely available and are easy to pack and carry as well. Eating frequently eliminates acidity which, in turn, helps energy levels and prevents skin damage.
HYDRATED BODY
Finally, ample amounts of fluids are extremely important. Water, fruit and veg juices, coconut water, fresh lime soda or water, jal jeera, chaas or buttermilk should be had frequently through the day to ensure hydration for the cells from within and to prevent toxin accumulation.
TIPS TO KEEP YOU CHARGED ALL DAY
Eat within an hour of waking. Blood glucose levels need a boost for the brain to function well.
Drink at least 8-12 glasses of water daily. Sometimes, we mistake hunger for what is actually thirst.
Don't drink caffeinated beverages for a boost. They have a dehydrating effect and can rev you up initially, only to lead to a crash.
Dodge food hangovers. Do not eat highfat foods within two hours of going to bed, it may disrupt sleep and cause sluggishness in the morning.
Get nutrition from the plate and not a pill. Food is always your best choice.
Variety and moderation in diet is still the rule you can take to the bank. That way, you won't overdose on anything and when the next new thing for health is discovered, you will have been eating it.
